The short answer
A 45 minute timer counts down 2,700 seconds and rings at zero. Press Start above to begin; it keeps time in a background tab and after a reload. Forty-five minutes fits a long study block before a break, a full workout with warm-up and cool-down, a batch of meal prep or a writing session.
What fits in 45 minutes?
Forty-five minutes is a long block. Plan the break before you start, so the end of the timer is a stop, not a suggestion.
- A long study block. Study, then take a 10 to 15-minute break away from the desk. See how long to study without a break.
- A full workout. Ten minutes of warm-up, 30 of training and five of cool-down.
- Meal prep for three days. One grain, one protein, two vegetables, portioned into boxes. Plan it with the meal planner.
- A writing session. Draft without editing until the bell, then stop mid-sentence so tomorrow is easy to start.
- Declutter a closet. Three piles: keep, donate, bin. Take the donate bag to the car before the timer ends.
How to use the 45 minute timer
- Press Start. The timer is already set to 45 minutes. The space bar starts and pauses it too.
- Need a different time? Type it in the box, such as 7, 7m 30s or 7:30, and press Set. Or tap another preset.
- Make it big. Full screen (or F) shows only the countdown. Kids view shows a big colored disk that shrinks as time runs out.
- When it rings, press Stop alarm or the space bar. Restart runs the same 45 minutes again; +1 min snoozes for a minute.
The timer saves the moment it will end on your device, so it stays accurate in a background tab and after a reload, and the time left shows in the tab title. The page has to stay open for the alarm to play.
Frequently asked questions
Is 45 minutes too long to study without a break?
Not for most people, but plan the break before you start. There is no proven perfect block length; in one study of 87 students, fixed break schedules went with less fatigue than taking breaks whenever you felt like it.
How long a break should I take after 45 minutes?
Around 10 to 15 minutes is common. A meta-analysis found short breaks of up to 10 minutes give small gains in energy, while longer breaks helped performance more after demanding work.
Can I run 45 minutes of work and a 15-minute break?
Yes. Run this timer, then the 15 minute timer. For a repeating cycle, set the Pomodoro timer to Custom with 45 minutes of focus and a 15-minute break.

- Albulescu et al. (2022): Give me a break! A meta-analysis of micro-breaks — Across 22 samples (2,335 people), breaks of up to 10 minutes gave small boosts to energy and small drops in fatigue; longer breaks helped performance more after demanding work.
