This online timer is a free countdown timer with an alarm. Type a time such as 5, 90s or 1:30, or tap a preset from 1 minute to 2 hours, then press Start. It counts down in big digits, shows the time left in your browser tab, keeps time in the background and rings at zero.
How do you set the online timer?
Tap a preset, or type a time in the box and press Set, then press Start. The box understands the ways people usually write a time:

Any time from 1 second to 24 hours works. While it runs, +1 min adds a minute; after it rings, +1 min works as a one-minute snooze.

Alarm sounds, notifications and a locked screen
Choose a bell, a soft chime, an alarm beep or a gentle rising tone, set the volume and press Play the sound to check it. With Repeat until I stop it on, the alarm plays again every few seconds for up to two minutes, until you press Stop alarm. Silent mode vibrates instead on phones that allow it.
Press Notify me when time is up to get a pop-up while you work in another tab; the browser asks first. A phone pauses web pages when its screen locks, so while the timer runs it asks the screen to stay awake. For a nap or anything you must not miss, your phone's clock app is the safer alarm.

A visual timer for kids and classrooms
Turn on Kids view and the digits sit under a big colored disk that shrinks as time runs out. It is green with plenty of time left, yellow at half and orange near the end, so children who cannot read a clock yet can still see how long is left. Full screen makes it readable across a room.
Frequently asked questions
How do I set a countdown timer online?
Type the time in the box and press Set, or tap a preset such as 5 min or 1 hour. Then press Start or the space bar. A plain number means minutes, so 10 is ten minutes; 1:30 is one minute thirty seconds and 1:30:00 is an hour and a half.
Does the timer keep running in another tab or after a reload?
Yes. The timer saves the moment it will end on your device, so switching tabs, reloading or closing and reopening the page keeps the right time. If it finished while the page was closed, you see Time's up and when it ended.
Will the alarm ring when my phone is locked?
Not reliably. A phone pauses web pages when the screen locks, so the page cannot play sound. While the timer runs, it asks the screen to stay awake; keep the page open and the screen on, or use your phone's clock app for something like a nap alarm.
Can I use this timer in a classroom?
Yes. Press Full screen (or F) for digits you can read across a room, and turn on the kids view: a big colored disk that shrinks as time runs out and changes from green to yellow to orange near the end.
Is the online timer free, and what does it store?
It is free with no sign-up. Your timer and sound settings stay in this browser; we only count anonymous events, such as a timer being started. Browser notifications are off until you press Notify me and allow them.
