The short answer
A 1 minute timer counts down 60 seconds and rings at zero. Press Start above and it begins at once, full screen if you like, with a kids view for classrooms. One minute is enough for a tiny habit step: a glass of water, one line in a journal or six slow breaths.
What fits in 1 minute?
A minute is too short to feel like work, which is the point: it is the smallest version of a habit you can repeat every day.
- Drink a full glass of water. Fill a glass the night before and leave it by the kettle, so the first minute of the morning has a job.
- Write one line in a journal. One sentence about today counts. Stuck? Pull a prompt from the journal prompt finder.
- Six slow breaths. Breathe in for 4 counts and out for 6. Six breaths at that pace fill about a minute.
- Hold a plank or a wall sit. Start with 20 seconds and add a few each week until the full minute feels easy.
- Set up tomorrow. Lay out clothes, pack the gym bag or put the book on your pillow. One minute tonight saves ten tomorrow.
How to use the 1 minute timer
- Press Start. The timer is already set to 1 minute. The space bar starts and pauses it too.
- Need a different time? Type it in the box, such as 7, 7m 30s or 7:30, and press Set. Or tap another preset.
- Make it big. Full screen (or F) shows only the countdown. Kids view shows a big colored disk that shrinks as time runs out.
- When it rings, press Stop alarm or the space bar. Restart runs the same 1 minute again; +1 min snoozes for a minute.
The timer saves the moment it will end on your device, so it stays accurate in a background tab and after a reload, and the time left shows in the tab title. The page has to stay open for the alarm to play.
Frequently asked questions
How many seconds is a 1 minute timer?
60 seconds. The display counts down from 1:00 to 0:00, then the alarm plays until you press Stop. To time 90 seconds, type 1:30 or 90s in the box instead.
Can I use the 1 minute timer for a classroom game?
Yes. Press Full screen so the digits fill the board, and switch on the kids view: a colored disk that shrinks as the minute runs out. Pick the bell or the chime if a beep feels too harsh.
Is one minute a day enough to build a habit?
It is a good start. Habits grow from repeating an action in the same situation; in one study the time for a daily action to feel automatic ranged from 18 to 254 days, and one missed day did not undo progress. A one-minute version makes daily repeats easy.
Can I restart the minute quickly?
Yes. When the alarm rings, press Restart, or the space bar, to run another minute straight away. The +1 min button adds a minute to a running timer.
