The short answer

A personal curriculum is a self-made study plan for one month. Pick 1 to 4 subjects you are curious about, gather a few books, podcasts, courses or videos for each, set a small amount of study time a day and end with a mini-project. This template turns that into four weeks: explore, practice, deepen, then show what you learned.

What is a personal curriculum?

A personal curriculum is a study plan you write for yourself: a few subjects you are curious about, the books, podcasts, courses and videos you will use, and a small project to show what you learned. The idea spread on TikTok in the summer of 2025, when creator Elizabeth Jean shared the monthly "curriculum" she sets herself, and thousands of people answered with their own as a way to learn again and scroll less. There are no grades and no fixed rules. Read the full personal curriculum guide for 60 subject ideas and example months.

How this personal curriculum template works

  1. Pick the month. It opens on the current month, so an October or November curriculum is ready to fill in. Choose any of the next 12 months.
  2. Add one to four subjects. Tap an idea to fill the form, then change anything. Two or three subjects is a good first month.
  3. List your resources. One per line, starting with the type: Book:, Podcast:, Course:, Video:. Three is plenty.
  4. Set your time. Choose minutes a day and days a week. Subjects take turns, one per study day, so a busy week still moves every subject forward.
  5. Follow the 4 weeks. Week 1 explores, week 2 practices, week 3 goes deeper and plans the project, week 4 finishes it. Tick each session as you do it.
  6. Print it or save it. Download PDF gives one portrait page for a desk or binder. Save as image gives a phone-sized picture of your syllabus.

Why the weeks are explore, practice, deepen, show

The structure follows what learning research supports. Testing yourself and spreading study over several days were the two techniques rated most useful in a review of 10 learning techniques, so practice and review sessions ask you to recall before you reread. The mini-project gives the month a finish line, and planning when and where you will study, as the minutes and days do here, linked to better follow-through in a meta-analysis of if-then plans. None of this guarantees results; it just makes the month easier to keep.

To make the habit stick, study at the same time each day, right after something you already do. The habit stacking builder writes that cue for you, and the reading challenge fits well if one subject is a reading list. Students who want a timetable for school subjects can use the study schedule maker.

Frequently asked questions

What is the personal curriculum trend?

A TikTok trend popularized in June 2025 by creator Elizabeth Jean: each month she picks a few subjects and gathers books and articles for each. Others joined with their own monthly curriculums, often as a way to learn for fun again and spend less time scrolling.

How many subjects should a monthly curriculum have?

Two or three is a good first month; four is the most this template allows. Fewer subjects means each one gets more sessions, which matters more than variety when you only have 20 to 30 minutes a day.

How much time a day does a personal curriculum take?

As little as 15 to 30 minutes on most days works. At 30 minutes, five days a week, a month adds up to about 10 hours, enough to read a book, finish a short course or make a small project.

Can I make an October or November curriculum?

Yes. The month picker opens on the current month and lists the next 12, so you can plan this month's curriculum now and the next one when it ends. Each month keeps its own ticks.

Is there a printable personal curriculum template PDF?

Yes. Press Download PDF and choose Save as PDF in the print screen. You get one portrait page with your subjects, goals, resources, mini-projects and all four weeks of sessions with boxes to tick.

Do I need a Notion template?

No. This template works in any browser on your phone or computer, saves on your device and prints. If you prefer Notion or a notebook, copy the four weeks and the session list from your printout.
